Welcome

How does a person learn to listen to their heart.  Learn what it's trying to say?  I know there's something I've wanted to do after the house emptied of 'my purpose in life.'  but, now that I have time to do it, I don't know what it is.  I decided to sit down and have a "heart to heart", so to speak, and Balderdash! was born.

It (my heart) said, "Get up!  Do something!  Stop wallowing in self-pity and guilt!  you did the best you could, you did what you were raised to do.  Now do something good, something fun, don't waste a day more!"

"Well, O.K.," I said, "but what will I do?  The things I enjoy doing are useless.  They will not change the world."

So what?

"I could do volunteer work", I thought grimly.

"Why?", saith the organ.

"It's useful and dignified."

"Un huh, I hate the idea."

"Well, do you have a better idea, oh Heart of Mine?"

Keep thinking, you'll figure it out.

"I don't want to think anymore!  If I can't do something to help humankind, I just won't do anything!"

Oh Balderdash! That's idiotic!

"Balderdash? Where did you get that word?"

I've got a lot more, stored in that great untried region called the sub-conscious mind.

"Oh? You're sharp today, aren't you? I've read about the unconscious mind, I know its there. I just never figured out what you're supposed to do with it."

"A slip of the tongue, according to Dr. Freud, speaks volumes." my heart laughed.

"Well, leave me alone--I'm going to meditate."

Sub-consciously or un-consciously?

"You're a smartass."

Thank you.

"You're welcome."

Are you meditating yet?

"Shut up."

You're not going to get out of it, you know.

"Get out of what?"

Deciding what you're going to do with the rest of your life.

"Well, that's not something a person should decide quickly. It takes time."

How much time?

"I don't know, darn it, I just started!"

Oh.

"I thought you would know. All the books say "listen to your heart", "follow your heart", and so on."

You read too much. You should have asked me. What we have here is a "lack of communication."

"Yeah, so what's new? Its the story of my life."

There you go again! Listen to your heart on this-- Be done with self-pity!

"All right! All right!! Communicate with me. Tell me what the sub-conscious mind does."

It's like a computer. It has stored everything you have ever done, said, dreamt, read, or thought about. All you have seen is in there. It has recorded your life. Everything is on the mini disks in your sub-conscious.

"Everything!?" Yes everything.

"Oh Lord! Hit delete!" I can't do that. "No?" Nope.

"Why does it want to save all that shit?"

So you can use it when you need to. It never forgets.

"So, that's why people get Alzheimer's. I guess there is a reason for everything. Some things a person has to forget!"

Have you decided yet?

"Yes. I've decided I don't have to decide. I will take a nap, and dream new data into my sub-conscious computer mind."

Procrastinating, aren't you?

"You bet! Everyones favorite pastime. You find anyone who says they wouldn't like to procrastinate, and you'll find a liar."

Ah, a philosopher too.

"That's it! You've found it! It's what I've always enjoyed the most. I will be a philosopher. I always did love to throw my opinions around. Thank you, oh Heart of Mine!"

BALDERDASH!
