How his aunt become his grandmother  --   or his preference:  "I'm my own grandpa."

DAVIS-PACE relationship

My brother, Luke, loves to research. He's the genealogist in the family and has loads of information. Some of which great novels could be made of.  This is but one example and I doubt if there will be another quite like it.

I'm leaving lots of space on this page because, as you'll find out, you're going to need lots of scribbling space to figure this one out.

I have had many private E-mails wondering how someone can be an aunt but at the same time be a grandmother. On its face, it doesn't make sense, but please follow closely my explanation below.

Because of Daddy's young age he could not understand the convoluted relationship between the Davis's and Pace's. He still couldn't understand when he was in his 80's how his aunt become his grandmother.  Can you blame him? At this late date it is much clearer if you pay close attention.

Great Grandpa (Bartley Martin Pace, Jr.) was a widower, and had been for a long time.

His son, our grandpa, (James Monroe Pace), was happily married to Cora Ann Davis.

Gr-Grampa Bart being an old widower, came to live with his son.

During this same time Sarah L. Norris became disenchanted with her husband, Isham M. Davis, for some reason. She got a divorce and apparently having nowhere else to live moved in with her daughter Cora Ann.

Poor ol' Grand Pa who was already taking care of his own aged father now has his recently divorced mother-in-law to contend with. (plus over a dozen children)

To make a long story as short as I can. Lonely old Bart Pace Jr. and recently divorced Sarah are married. No children and as far as I can determine it was a happy and welcome union for both.

But,,,

In the meantime, Isham Murphy Davis is also recently divorced and lonely.

And then into the picture comes Grandpa's sister by the name of Ida Pace who has just became (guess what ?) divorced and lonely.

Ish and Ida's eyes locked, and they were not lonely anymore -and as far as I know they had a long and happy marriage with many fine children.

Now - if you study this closely it might stop some of the Pace-Davis confusion,

or I'm my own grandpa.
