The County Library

We were taught to read before we started school. We all love to read still.

There was county library about three miles from our house.  We lived way out in the country.  This library was in Mrs. Hurlburt's house.  She had a tiny room right off her living room.  That was the library.  A large closet.

We would go there pretty often.  We walked of course.  We would read on the way back.

That Librarian introduced me to the Little House series.  Laura Ingalls.  I loved those books.  Everytime I returned the books there would be a new one waiting for me.  She ordered them just for me.  She told me so.

I really believe my brothers and I were her best customers.

She was a wonderful person.  This library was in the Island District, Kings County.

Does anyone else remember?

Normal everyday doin's of country folk who didn't miss the 'stuff' they never knew, and the kids who wondered how city kids ever had fun.
